“I am an orthopedic surgeon trained in both New York and London. My PhD was in advanced research into the use of stem cells for healing which prompted my passion for harnessing science and art to achieve true modern wellbeing. From here, I pioneered an emerging model in personalized, preventative healthcare and SOLICE was born.”
How did you get involved in this space, tell us about your background?
I wanted to create a concierge healthcare concept that brought about a renaissance of the long-lost GP. I believe modern healthcare is about care that treats and pre-empts rather than just reacts and responds. For me, it was about how we manage our patients with an entirely holistic approach, drawing on longevity and alternative therapies as not being alternative but wholly integrated into a 360-degree way of caring for the health and wellness of mind and body.
Who are your clients?
Our UHNW clients form a broad demographic. Our members are looking for more than simply health screening but incremental, ongoing changes that safeguard their health and wellbeing. They are international and London-based – we provide care for them in multiple territories.
What was the biggest challenge you faced when embarking on your career journey?
Ensuring you have the right people around you. From my time as an orthopedic surgeon to being the founder of SOLICE, it is absolutely critical to have the best team.
Can you tell us about one of your career highlights.
My career highlight was receiving my NIHR (National Institute of Health & Care Research) clinical fellowship at the start of my career. I was fortunate to have been supported and mentored by amazing surgeons and scientists and it really began my passion for research-based medical care and advancing the health of my patients through scientific discovery.
Is there a career highlight you’re still hoping to achieve?
To continue to build his global paradigm-shifting concept in healthcare; one that is not built on transient longevity but based on meaningful changes.
Was there a particular gap in the market that you are looking to address when creating SOLICE?
The gap is very much based on personalised medicine that does not follow protocol or standardised programmes. Bespoke and precise for the individual patient is the gap SOLICE is seeking to address.
Can you outline some key trends we’re seeing, or can expect to see in the world of healthcare?
The use of stem cells, not just for anti-ageing but in treating acute disease. The use of wearable devices, but they will become smarter in the way they deliver data and feedback. Simplicity and lo-fi living where we will actively seek ways to move away from the constant over-stimulation from devices and information over-load.
WEALTH
Describe your relationship with money and personal finance in three words?
Curious. Savvy. Ambitious.
How do you define Wealth?
The ability to live without boundaries. Fiscal. Health. Geographic. Time.
What money lessons did you learn when growing up? What would you have done differently?
My parents were not fiscally savvy although hard working, I would have begun saving for the future much earlier on. I think if I had my time again, I would have sought the advice of those with true fiscal knowledge rather than those with material wealth.
What has been the most helpful tool for you to learn about money?
My husband. He has been in finance over thirty years; he is very patient and has taught me a lot about forward planning.
How do you organise and manage your own finances?
I work with a personal financial advisor, and I set up an annual personal budget at the beginning of the year with a contingency.
What is the best money decision you have made?
Starting SOLICE as we start to gain momentum in driving the company’s growth.
What is your number one financial priority?
My son.
How often do you talk about money with your friends?
More so now as I’ve got older as we do discuss business and personal finances and planning for the future.
Which area of finance do you wish you knew more about, and why?
Tax laws, both corporate and personal tax. With the ongoing political changes, we should all be up to speed on them.
WELLNESS
Do you have a morning routine you rely on, or do anything in particular to set you up for the day?
Coffee. I’m a surgeon at heart so black coffee fuels my day.
Who or what do you rely on for personal well-being?
My husband. He allows me to grow as a woman, a mother and a businesswoman.
Could you tell us about a woman who has influenced your journey?
My nanny. She was a beacon of kindness and healing.
What resources or tools could you not live without?
My phone. It’s a poisoned chalice as I can’t escape it.
What is your most treasured possession?
My son and my family.
What are you currently reading and listening to?
I am currently reading a few McKinsey reports on equality and diversion in the workplace. I am listening to Tracy Chapman and Nina Simone in the evening and house music in the morning.
