What do you think was the greatest source of stress during the process of your divorce?
The divorce process was undoubtedly a trying period in my life, and the most substantial source of stress came from several fronts. Firstly, it was managing the well-being of our children, who were deeply affected by the changes in our family dynamics.
Secondly, there was the emotional turmoil of all parties involved, as divorce can trigger a complex mix of feelings like anger, grief, and uncertainty.
Maintaining a positive mindset amidst these emotions was challenging but crucial. There were also the logistics of moving houses, which brought its own set of challenges.
Perhaps the most pressing concern was financial stability. The uncertainty of post-divorce finances weighed heavily on my mind, as it does for many individuals in such situations.
What advice would you give to women to best prepare mentally and practically for an upcoming matrimonial breakdown?
Preparing for a potential matrimonial breakdown, whether mentally or practically, is a matter of resilience and planning. Firstly, always remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and the intensity of emotions will gradually subside. While it's essential to acknowledge and work through your feelings, don't let them define your future.
Maintaining open lines of communication with your ex-partner, especially when children are involved, is vital. Divorce should not be seen as an end but rather as a transition, and maintaining a civil relationship can make this transition smoother.
Financially, it's essential to take control of your situation. Plan for your financial independence and security, even before divorce is on the horizon. Develop a robust financial plan that considers your post-divorce needs and goals. Seek professional advice if necessary to navigate the financial aspects effectively.
Were you concerned about your finances following your divorce, and how did you manage this?
Yes, financial worries were undoubtedly a concern for me post-divorce, just as they are for many individuals in similar situations. I firmly believe in maintaining a resilient mindset, and my approach was to work diligently and take control of my financial situation. While there may be temporary setbacks, I never allowed money to dictate my decisions or overwhelm me. Instead, I focused on building financial stability through hard work and sound financial planning.
It's essential to assess your financial situation realistically, create a budget, and set financial goals that align with your new circumstances. Seek the advice of financial experts if needed to make informed decisions. The key is to take charge of your finances and not let them become a source of ongoing stress.
How would you have liked to divorce differently?
Looking back, I don't believe there's an ideal time for a divorce. Life often presents us with unexpected challenges, and divorces can happen at any moment. Rather than dwelling on the timing, it's more productive to focus on how you respond to the situation as it unfolds.
Divorce is seldom a well-timed event; there are often blindsides and hurt involved. In my experience, it's better to adapt and learn from the process than to second-guess timing or seek to control the uncontrollable.
Divorce is a journey, and we must navigate it with resilience and grace, regardless of when it occurs.
What risks do couples face as they get married?
Entering into marriage is a significant life decision. Communication is at the core of a healthy marriage, and a lack of effective communication can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts. Truly listening to each other's needs and concerns is essential.
Differing life goals and aspirations can also pose a risk to a marriage. Before tying the knot, couples should engage in honest conversations about their long-term plans, ambitions, and expectations. Ensuring that these align or can be reconciled is crucial for the long-term.
Another often overlooked area is financial discussions. Many couples avoid talking about money, but it's essential to have open and honest conversations about finances, including financial goals, spending habits, and savings plans, to prevent financial stress from straining the relationship.
What advice would you give to a woman currently going through divorce?
For women going through a divorce, I would emphasise the importance of maintaining a friendly relationship with your ex-partner, especially if you have children together.
Co-parenting can be challenging, but it's in the best interest of the children to have both parents involved and on amicable terms. Keep the lines of communication open, even if it seems difficult. Additionally, seek emotional support from friends, family, or a therapist.
Divorce can be emotionally taxing, and having a support system can make a world of difference in your well-being.
Financially, take control! Plan for your future independently. Don't rely solely on your ex-spouse for financial stability. Create a budget, set financial goals, and consider seeking advice from financial professionals to ensure you are making sound financial decisions.
Remember that the process is challenging, but with time, it will get easier, and you can emerge from it stronger and more resilient.

What’s next for you?
Looking ahead, I have authored a book that I hope will be published soon, allowing me to share my insights and experiences with a broader audience. Additionally, I'm fully dedicated to developing and launching ‘Bust The Label’ my lifestyle brand, and I invite everyone to join me on this exciting journey of growth and empowerment.
